The well bred Missouri Foxtrotter is a beautiful, agile, intelligent, mindful, and a loyal, willing to please temperament; able to be the perfect partner for any discipline or rider.
A Bit of American History
A true American horse; the Missouri Foxtrotter.
These special endurance cattle horses were an important part of history. Enabling the hard working Ozark cowboys to drive cattle through very tough terrain for days at a time. By carefully selecting foundation stock, the perfect endurance, cattle horse was produced. The goal was to have a hardy, sure footed, loyal and brave mount; agile and athletic was a must. While injury to horses and riders were eminent, the MFT was loyal enough to stay with his rider and safely carry him back to the ranch, even while managing injury himself. The unique bi-lateral gait allows the horse and rider to travel nearly effortlessly, with full expectancy of not getting tired. Foxtrotters have a dog walk, trot, and canter, as do all breeds. In addition they genetically have a special gait; the flatwalk (slower) and Foxtrot. This gait is fast, smooth and very efficient. It is not a manufactured gait, just a natural awesome ride. The smooth ride, or lack of jarring bounce, is relaxing and enjoyable. In addition, there is much less strain on the riders' knees and back.
The Missouri Foxtrotting Horse is truly an
American Treasure.
